20 Fantastic Blimps, Balloons, And Dirigibles In Movies

4. The Rocketeer (1991)

Up (animated film)
Buena Vista Pictures

A fantastic pulp throwback movie that was part of the nostalgia boom that brought about film versions of The Phantom and The Shadow as well, The Rocketeer tapped into Indiana Jones-style adventure by battling Nazis in glamorous old Hollywood.

In the climactic action sequence, a Hollywood star unmasked as an undercover Nazi escapes the Griffith Park Observatory on a Nazi airship. Our jet-packed hero lands atop the airship, only to find the giant, villainous Lothar between him and stopping the Nazis. They battle on top of the airship in a stunning action sequence.

Interesting note: Ron Taylor, the actor playing Lothar, was made up in appearance like Rondo Hatton, the B-movie actor in the 1940s whose acromegaly gave his facial features a distinct look.

Chris Vander Kaay knows the hidden secrets of the world, but he frequently forgets them. He has them written on a piece of paper along with his passwords, but he seems to have misplaced that as well.
