20 Fantastic German Horror Films You Must See Before You Die

Dubbed by many as the "King of Euro-Sleaze," Jesús Franco has made many movies, both good and terrible. Bloody Moon (aka Die Säge des Todes) is his foray into slasher flicks, and for its time, it certainly does not disappoint. There’s plenty of blood, some very impressive gore, and a decent body count; the result is a classic slasher that every horror fan should be familiar with.

In the film, a horribly scarred man is cruelly rejected by a girl he made advances on, and thus, in a fit of rage, he stabs her to death with a pair of scissors. Five years later, he is released from the mental hospital into the care of his sister and an ailing relative. Soon, at a nearby Spanish language school, beautiful female students are being brutally murdered in various macabre ways. Angela (Olivia Pascal) is a student at the academy. She thinks she witnesses the murder of one of her friends but nobody believes her due to her love of murder mystery novels. What’s a girl to do?

In short, Bloody Moon is old fashioned gory fun, and considering Franco’s normal style of movie making, he acquits himself in the slasher genre quite admirably. He does not rely on his famous zoom shots, the women in the film are attractive and the film has a well-crafted atmosphere.  Good stuff.
