20 Feel Good Movies You Need To Watch Now
3. I Love You, Man (2009)
Here’s a movie that takes the Rom-Com genre and puts a twist on it. I Love You Man is a lovely movie about Peter Klaven who has just got engaged to the woman of his dreams but realises he has no guy friends to be his best man. In several attempts of ‘meeting the right man’, he stumbles across Sydney in an open house. The two develop a friendship but it puts a strain on Peter’s relationship with his fiancé.
It may sound silly but there is genuine chemistry between Jason Segal and Paul Rudd. The story is written so that their friendship feels like something that came organically and out of the blue. The exchanges between Peter and Sydney are a bit awkward at times but you can really see their bond developing. The script is also clever not to rely on exaggerated laddish antics between the two but rather just shows them as regular people having the time of their lives together which makes their bromance much more infectious.
The storyline does keep us wondering whether Peter may have to give up his bromance with Sydney or if the wedding might not go ahead. Thankfully, there is a sweet ending where he gets to have both. It’s a hilarious, heartwarming film with probably the best actors ever to play the roles of oddballs Peter and Sydney.
