20 Film Directors Who Could Define 2016

7. Shane Black

Speaking of Iron Man, here is the director who took hold of the reins after Jon Favreau left the series. Although Iron Man 3 received some divisive critical reception (mainly among angry comic book fans), it was a monumental financial success: the movie made a staggering worldwide total of $1.2 billion. But long before Shane Black directed the tenth highest-grossing film of all time, he was a Hollywood screenwriter best known for co-creating the Lethal Weapon series. Black has also written several other similarly-themed movies such as Last Action Hero, The Last Boy Scout, and The Long Kiss Goodnight. In 2005, Black made his directorial debut with the hilarious black comedy Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Val Kilmer. Pretty much all of these projects are buddy-cop action thrillers with a comedic bent €” it€™s kind of Shane Black€™s niche. Now, in 2016, we€™ll get to see Black€™s newest film, The Nice Guys, yet another buddy-cop action-mystery starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. Okay, so Black may not be reinventing the wheel or anything, but he€™s sticking with what he does best € and if The Nice Guys is anything like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, audiences are in for a treat.
