8. Who Framed Roger Rabbit

One year after Robert Zemeckis' smash-hit, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, plans were underway for a sequel. Even though Steven Spielberg intended to produce a follow-up, which was penned by JJ Abrams, the project never came to fruition. As special effects advanced during the 1990s, the studio changed things up, believing that Roger Rabbit and the rest of the Toons should be CGI instead of hand-drawn characters. Although test footage was filmed, nothing concrete materialised.

However, interest in the project was renewed in 2016 when Zemeckis read the perfect script for a sequel. After having talks with studio execs at Disney, it seemed like the highly anticipated follow-up was finally coming together.

Sadly, the project stalled again. According to Zemeckis, Disney weren't enthusiastic about the proposed film since "there were no princesses in it" and they didn't want to represent the character of Jessica Rabbit, who they regarded as sexually inappropriate. Even though another film in the series has been teased many times over the last 30+ years, there's no evidence we'll see Toontown on the big screen any time soon.
