Potter Actors Featured: Kenneth Branagh, Helena Bonham Carter, John Cleese

Gilderoy Lockhart himself Kenneth Branagh both directed and starred in this retelling of Mary Shelley's classic horror story, a version often credited as being the most faithful adaptation of her novel Frankenstein (or, The Modern Prometheus) despite several differences and new additions.

Robert De Niro starred as The Creation, the product of an experiment by Branagh's mortality-obsessed Victor Frankenstein. Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) stars alongside her former Potter colleague as Elizabeth, Frankenstein's fiancée and adoptive sister, with John Cleese (Gryffindor resident ghost Nearly Headless Nick) rounding up the Hogwarts alumni.

The film received generally unfavourable reviews, with Branagh accused of being out of his depth with such a big, visually ambitious project. While the version captures the tragically misunderstood aspect of the Frankenstein story, it lacks enough real villainy to be taken seriously as a horror, falling short of what it set out to achieve.
