The $200 million Independance Day: Resurgence my be without Will Smith, but retains original star Goldblum and offers an additional cast full of bright young faces including Monroe and Hemsworth. This next epic chapter promises to "deliver global spectacle on an unimaginable scale" so there is no doubt this will serve as a flagship component in 2016's summer blockbuster period. The narrative focus documents the collaboration of Earth's nations on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare the human race for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction. There is little doubt this will provide towering visual effects as our world is penetrated by invaders, but here's hoping Resurgence offers the smartly assured humour of its predecessor too.
