Ghostbusters is arguably the greatest comedy horror movie ever made and was a major platform for the rise to mega-stardom for the likes of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. 1989's Ghostbusters II was nowhere near as good, as it was aimed more at children and felt like a less funny, watered-down version of the original, but it proved to be nearly as popular as its predecessor in terms of box office success. That alone is testament to the enduring appeal of the franchise that will continue with a whole new cast in 2016. Though how much they will have to do with the "reboot" remains unclear, the cast was undoubtedly a key factor in the success of the franchise, with Murray, Aykroyd and Ramis joined by the often over-looked Ernie Hudson and the likes of Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts.
