20 Gory Movie Moments That Left Horror Fans Cheering

18. Cable Snapping Massacre - Ghost Ship (2002)

Ghost Ship
Warner Bros

It'€™s often difficult to accomplish, but every worthwhile horror film needs to draw its viewers in immediately with a memorable opening scene in order to succeed, and though Ghost Ship achieves this, pretty much every single scene that follows seems absolutely lame by comparison. These first few minutes of the film are extremely deceiving, particularly due to the nonthreatening, romantic soundtrack. However, this false sense of calm is quickly shattered.

This memorable scene in question takes place on the film€™s titular ship, as a large group of people are partying aboard it, when suddenly, an unseen entity slowly pulls some razor wire taught, causing it to constrict on the entire collective. They all stand still, absolutely stunned for a few moments, before they all begin to fall to pieces, having been sliced at the waist by this razor-sharp wire. The only survivor left is a young girl who was too short to be diced by it, but she gets to watch in horror at the bloodbath that occurs around her.

And with that, an everyday piece of cruise liner equipment becomes the grisly device of massacre and the apparatus of one of the greatest death scenes in horror cinema.
