20 Great Films You Won't Believe Aren't On IMDb's Top 250
19. Skyfall
Rating: 7.8
Blockbusters are under-represented on the Top 250. In fairness, this is likely because blockbusters aren't for everyone and will annoy certain viewers, but there are some very unfortunate exclusions, including this incredible James Bond flick.
The James Bond franchise doesn't have any films on the list. Other terrific Bond films such as Goldfinger and The Spy Who Loved Me no doubt had their chances largely ruined by their uncomfortable sexism, but Skyfall feels like it should have a better chance.
A Bond film for those who don't like Bond films, Skyfall is both an exhilarating action movie and an extraordinary character study focusing on Bond himself. It takes a microscope to Bond and examines what he means, what he represents, his inner feelings and his relationships, making for unexpectedly emotional viewing.
Beautifully shot, genuinely moving and relentlessly thrilling, Skyfall is my favorite Bond movie of all time and it was an incredibly powerful 50th anniversary for the beloved British icon. It's been criticized by some for deviating from the Bond formula, but frankly it was better than anything in the franchise that had come before.
