Lady Bird is off the Top 250 and once a movie is off the list, they're unlikely to get back on.Given how much Lady Bird deserves a spot, that's extremely unfortunate.
Lady Bird was already not given a single award at the Oscars, so this isn't the only time it's been unjustly excluded. That was pretty shocking, given that it's easily one of the best independent films of the decade. Few other indie movies have managed such a wonderful mix of comedy and pathos or managed to be so low-key yet massively entertaining at the same time. It's also fantastically acted and transcends all the cliches you were expecting.
Lady Bird marks Greta Gerwig as a talent to watch, given how fantastic her writing and directing is here. She crafted one of the most stirring dramas in years and out of the many, many 2018 Oscar nominees left off the Top 250, none of these exclusions hurt more than Lady Bird.
Although the greatest of the Best Picture nominees in 2018 was Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Lady Bird nearly beats it.
