20 Great Movies That Were Accused Of Being Rip-Offs

7. Drive (2011)

Drive was the movie that made Ryan Gosling a fully-fledged Hollywood heartthrob - an ultra-violent, retro-inspired indie gem, the plot saw Gosling's no-named "Driver," a silent badass, trying to get himself out of a volatile situation after meeting a young woman. Anyone who grew up watching movies in the '70s having deja vu, perhaps? Doesn't that sound like Walter Hill's The Driver with Ryan O'Neal, a movie that happens to share that exact same plot? How Much Of A Rip-Off Are We Talking? Okay, so although Drive is clearly its own beast (and a fairly unique beast it is), it also must've have taken some cues from the Walter Hill movie, given that they've got a heck of a lot in common (not to mention, presumably by coincidence, two actors called Ryan in the leading roles - weird!). Both movies are about a getaway driver, after all, and though the majority of their plots differ, it can't be coincidence that both their characters remain nameless! Overall Rip-Off Rating: 3/5
