20 Great Movies Since 2000 That You Forgot Existed

6. Observe & Report (2009)

Observe & Report happens to be one of those curious little movies that - like Antz and A Bug's Life - found itself released alongside another movie with a similar plot. In this case, it was Paul Blart: Mall Cop with Kevin James - a "comedy" that certainly won't be making this list. Observe & Report was met with mixed reviews upon first release; many critics found it in poor taste, uneven in its execution, and actually a little bit creepy. All those things are true, of course, though none of them render Jody Hill's film as anything other than insanely curious. The movie, then, which stars Seth Rogen as an unstable mall cop who can't seem to get his life together, has been compared to Taxi Driver for its dark twists and notably disturbed hero. If this is one of those movies that has fallen off the radar, now seems about right the time to revisit this compelling oddity. It's nowhere near as bad as anybody has made it out to be; misunderstood, for sure.
