20 Great Movies Since 2000 That You Forgot Existed
5. Shadow Of The Vampire (2000)
Shadow Of The Vampire clings to a completely irresistible premise. On the surface, it's a fictionalised account of the making of infamous horror movie Nosferatu, which was directed by F.W. Murnau and starred Max Schreck as the monster of the title; the twist is that, in this movie, Max Schreck is suspected to be a real vampire by the cast and crew. What's more, Willem Dafoe plays Max Schreck, whilst John Malkovich stars as Murnau. Dafoe? Malkovich? In the same movie? If you didn't know this thing existed, why aren't you off trying to watch it right this second? Shadow Of The Vampire is underrated in the truest sense; it's more likely that you didn't even know it existed than you forgot that it did. Featuring what could be argued as Willem Dafoe's greatest ever performance (seriously), the best thing about Shadow Of The Vampire is that it is actually really, really spooky. It will linger in your subconscious for days - or weeks, even - afterwards.
