17. The Yule Ball Lead-Up - Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

The Harry Potter movies were many things. They were emotional, exciting and filled with wonder, but what might be easy to forget is that they are also incredibly funny. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which is arguably the franchise's best film, might be a fairly dark instalment overall but it is also the funniest of the lot. The funniest part of it is this achingly hysterical montage of the lead-up to the Yule Ball.

This entire sequence will make your sides split multiple times. McGonagall uses Ron to showcase ballroom dancing and embarrasses him in front of everyone, Harry and Ron try unsuccessfully to get dates, Snape repeatedly hits Harry and Ron for talking during class and perhaps funniest of all, Ron is left mortified after he impulsively asks out Fleur Delacour.

It's sheer comedic joy all around, as well as a lovely way of showing the characters being like real teenagers and experiencing the awkwardness of adolescence.

The Yule Ball itself is fabulous too (aside from Ron and Hermione's cringey argument), but it's this lead-up that lingers in the memory as potentially the funniest part of the whole series, as well as one of its most charming moments.
