Kill List is not only one of the finest horror films of the 2010s, but it's also got one of the decade's very best horror movie scenes. Truly, this ending is something else.

Kill List depicts Jay (Neil Maskell) and Gal (Michael Smiley) taking out various targets, with their last one being an MP who they see participating in a bizarre cult ritual. They kill their target, but the cultists pursue them into some tunnels and after a terrifying chase, in which Gal is killed, Jay is eventually captured.

In a field, he is forced to participate in a ritual where he fights a hunchback with a knife. Eventually, he manages to kill the hunchback... who is his own wife with his son attached to her back. Jay is then crowned by the cultists, among whom are many characters the two hitmen encountered in the film, showing that they were being led towards this nightmarish fate all along.

It's very hard to know exactly what this highly ambiguous ending means, but it certainly can be agreed by all that it's audacious, visionary, brilliantly done, utterly mad, horrifying, shocking and completely brilliant. Horror cinema at its best.
