20 Greatest Movie Psychos Of All Time

12. Alex Forrest - Fatal Attraction (1987)

fatal We all know the storyline. Dan Gallagher meets Alex Forrest while his wife is away and the two have a passionate affair. Afterwards Gallagher basically tells her to get lost but Alex Forrest is one determined woman - she wants Gallagher and will go to any lengths to either punish him and ruin his life. She tells him she is pregnant, cuts her wrist, pours acid over his car and generally stalks him. The film gave the English language new terminology - bunny boiler - a psycho stalker woman. This is due to the fact that Alex boils one of Dan's daughter 's rabbits on their stove. The film ends in a big psycho killing scene. Alex has invaded Dan's home and attempts to kill his wife in the bath. Dan hears his wife's screams and goes upstairs. There is a is she really dead? moment but eventually Alex croaks it in the form of bullet by Dan's wife. There is no pity for Alex as a woman scorned and treated shabbily. Instead the greatest amount of Fatal Attraction viewers will view her as a psycho killer. She is, according to experts, a textbook case of Borderline Personality Disorder showing fear of abandonment, self harm, poor impulse control, inexplicable anger, inner emptiness. Another diagnosis is Erotomania or de Clerambault's Syndrome. This is basically falling in love with someone and maintaining your stalkerish behaviour in spite of the fact that the other person does not love you. Alex Forrest is a fabulous psycho to deconstruct and even more fabulous to watch in action as she riles the crap out of Dan. Extra-marital affairs are disastrous. Keep it in your pants.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
