20 Greatest Movie Psychos Of All Time

11. Annie Wilkes - Misery (1990)

misery-kathybates Annie Wilkes is a big time psycho. When she rescues a writer named Paul Sheldon whom she admires from a car wreck (he has two broken legs), she finds he has killed off her favourite character in a book. As a result Annie goes beserk and starts tormenting and torturing Sheldon. She demands that Sheldon re-writes the book to make her heroine live. Sheldon finds out that Wilkes is a serial killer and fears he may be next. In the film's most brutal scene she breaks his ankles to stop him wandering. When a cop comes to investigate Sheldon's disappearance, Annie kills him. Eventually Annie is stopped in her tracks by Sheldon's inventiveness. Annie Wilkes is a vicious, spiteful deeply disturbed psycho killer. She displays various signs of extreme mental and emotional neuroses and psychosis. She suffers from periodic depression and harms herself. Wilkes is paranoid and obsessive. She abhors swearing but will fly into a rage if she is even slightly aggrieved. Wilkes most likely has Bipolar Disorder, a severe Personality Disorder and is fond of sadomasochism. This is according to forensic psychiatrists who have analysed the film. She is also a classic case of psycho stalker.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
