20 Greatest Opening Scenes In Horror Movie History

The Movie: It took over a decade for it to finally happen (longer actually), but in 2003 fans finally got to see horror’s two biggest icons – Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees – duke it out on-screen.

In the film, Freddy has become unable to haunt people’s dreams as the citizens of his hometown, Springwood, have generally forgotten about him. In order to regain his power, Freddy manipulates Jason into resurrecting himself and traveling to Springwood to cause panic and fear, leading to rumors that Freddy has returned. A murderous rivalry ensues.

The Opening Scene: During the opening of FVJ the audience is greeted by a voice-over by Freddy; detailing his days as the “Springwood Slasher”. After claiming another victim the audience gets to see what was only ever talked about (that episode of Freddy’s Nightmares doesn’t count), the film shows the townspeople get revenge and burn Freddy alive.

This leads to a splendid montage of life, post-death, for Mr. Krueger. A compilation of all his greatest kills and moments from the previous NOES films are presented. The perfect way to let people know (who might have forgotten) just how awesome Freddy indeed is.
