20 Greatest Revenge Movies Of All-Time

17. Navajo Joe

United Artists

Burt Reynolds stars in this gritty spaghetti western - a favourite of Quentin Tarantino's - as a wronged Navajo Indian who makes his mission to kill the men responsible for massacring his tribe. The resulted, delivered by spaghetti western master Sergio Corbucci, are mean, lean and very, very entertaining, whilst the soundtrack (courtesy of the legendary Ennio Morricone) will stay in your head for days afterwards.

From a technical perspective, Navajo Joe is B-movie schlock at its most artistic; as far as spaghetti westerns are concerned, Corbucci's placement of the camera is second only to that of Sergio Leone. And then there's Joe's plight itself, rendered in such a way that the tension keeps on mounting until the final reel - the finale itself, which takes place in a canyon and features cinema's greatest ever use of a tomahawk, will have you rooting in the aisles.

For some reason, Burt Reynolds said that this was the worst movie he ever made: sorry, Burt, but you're totally and utterly wrong about that one. This is a minor classic.
