20 Highest Grossing Movies of 2014 - Ranked From Worst To Best
6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Unfairly labeled as the least interesting of the big screen Avengers, Chris Evans' Captain America definitively put these notions to rest by proving that a 95 year old do-gooder could also be a total badass in The Winter Soldier, a mix of political thriller and superhero blockbuster that provided one of the strongest entries across the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo make quite the impression in their first big-budget project, a movie that balances relevant ideas about freedom alongside some expertly-staged action sequences and a man in a flying suit with wings. While the final set-piece descends into the studio's formula for CGI aerial battles and the titular villain doesn't make much of an impression, The Winter Soldier turned out to be Marvel's most character-focused effort yet, an exciting comic book movie that played out like an old-school conspiracy thriller on a blockbuster budget.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
