7. X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Bryan Singer returned to the director's chair of the X-Men franchise after a decade, and it felt like he had never been away as he delivered what turned out to be the biggest and best entry in the long-running superhero franchise yet. Adapting one of the most iconic storylines from the comics and uniting the casts of both timelines brought huge expectations, but Days Of Future Past met them and delivered one of the year's best blockbusters in the process. With a massive ensemble cast and a time-travel story that positioned the Days Of Future Past as a sequel, prequel and reboot all at the same time, there was a real danger that the movie would struggle under its own weight. Although Days Of Future Past does see some supporting characters get shortchanged and Peter Dinklage's villain is a little too one-dimensional, the movie overcomes this thanks to solid writing, inventive visuals and exciting action, with Quicksilver's prison break undoubtedly one of the year's best scenes.
