20 Highest Grossing Movies of 2014 - Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Edge Of Tomorrow
Edge of Tomorrow's marketing campaign was flawed to say the least; given a bland title (that has since been changed to Live Die Repeat for the home video release) and a succession of trailers that made the movie look like a standard Hollywood sci-fi as opposed to the smart, thrilling, often hilarious and action-packed blockbuster that it turned out to be. Director Doug Liman takes the simple 'Groundhog Day in space' idea and turns it into one of the most original studio efforts in a long time, even though it does suffer from a tacked-on romance and a disappointing third act. Tom Cruise carries the movie with a charismatic performance that takes him from coward to conqueror, with Emily Blunt a revelation as the ass-kicking 'Full Metal Bitch'. Featuring at least half a dozen of the year's most memorable death scenes, Edge of Tomorrow is the result of a killer concept, great writing and exhilarating set-pieces combining to create one of the most exciting movies of the year.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
