Chart Position: 18th Worldwide Gross: $386,041,607 A perhaps surprise Top 20 hit, Home caps off the trifecta of childrens films that open this ranking. Before you start, I have nothing against these kind of films, and, when theyre good, they can rank in cinemas upper echelon (think Up). Its a reductive exercise to excuse childrens films because they are indeed for kids, though, and those who lob claims of the critic being a cynic - of not being able to enjoy something not for them - are usually those who think that just because their child is watching a fantasia of colour and cuteness that they will love it. That might often be the case, but it remains that children can be bored by movies too. Theres a reason why Toy Story endures and why Minions will be proven a fad. Rant over: Home, starring Jim Parsons and Rhianna (sigh), sees an alien on the run from his home planet make friends with a girl, whom he then tries to help. Directed by Tim Jones (Antz; Over the Hedge ), Home is one of the few top twenty anomalies, one of those films you would have never predicted to be there at the start of the year.
