Few had any expectations that this 15-years-too-late sequel would actually be worth all that wait, especially with the gaping hole that Will Smith's absence leaves.
Though it's fairly painless for the most part in its own so-dumb-it's-fun way, Resurgence still attempts to coast on nostalgia while introducing mostly insufferable new cast members you won't even begin to care for.
Visual effects are rock solid throughout, but the dialogue is frequently inane and the blatant pandering to China is totally insulting to anyone with a functioning brain stem.
Plus, the film blows a potentially huge character death by making it seem...totally ordinary. And Whitmore's new speech was rubbish. What a waste.
