20 Horror Films That Will Chill You To The Bone In 2015
4. The Witch
In cinema, witches are traditionally depicted as campy, melodramatic cartoons. They sport wicked noses, grotesque make-up and shrill cackling voices. But if one were to subtract all elements of broad humour and clichéd corniness and distil the frightening concept of witchcraft and evil to their base essentials, a chilling picture begins to emerge. Enter The Witch. The Witch was one of the breakout movies at the Sundance film festival this year - and apparently with good reason. Writer/director Robert Eggers' feature filmmaking debut is reportedly one of the most chilling, disturbing and atmospheric horror outings in recent history. This film, about devout colonial-era farmers who have the misfortune of being excommunicated and then who set up shop next to a haunted forest, is not a traditional horror. The end result has been described as a Halloween-themed episode of Little House On The Prairie by way of Ben Wheatleys Kill List. The Sanderson Sisters would approve.
