20 Horror Movies WAY More Successful Than Anyone Expected
15. The Devil Inside
Although there are various reasons why low-budget horrors sometimes blow their competition out of the water, it usually boils down to the fact that they're awesome.
But there are exceptions to the rule, especially when it comes to The Devil Inside. Whether it's the predictable scares, overused tropes, or the weak story, it's hard to find anything redeemable in this trash. Due to its controversial climax (or lack of), the story had no resolution whatsoever, which is why The Devil Inside is considered to have one of the worst endings in horror history. Despite costing a measly million, the critical backlash and low audience scores should've been enough to make this clunker tank.
However, The Devil Inside had the perfect release slot, since it had no major films to contend with. As such, it earned 20 times its budget within a few days and a hundred times its $1 million budget overall.
In a funny way, it's fascinating to see The Devil Inside prosper the way it did, since it proves any horror indie can make a fortune, even if it's really, really, really bad.
