20 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Of Summer 2014

15. The Purge: Anarchy

Release Date: July 18th Following the success of the original - largely thanks to the high-concept and the tense approach to story-telling - Anarchy returns to the alternate America where laws stop for 12 hours a year and scores are settled, blood-lust is satiated and anarchy reigns. Taking away the structure of the crimes in favour of a free-for-all on the streets might look like an over-reach, but the stakes are definitely higher this time around, and with different lead characters - a vengeful vigilante father, a stranded couple and an attacked family - will change the dynamic enough to make this a good prospect. The Selling Point: The original was surprisingly great (aside from the very end) and the simple premise - of a group of characters attempting to flee an unassailable situation - works for the same reason that zombie movies endure. The Concerns: There's a major chance that the film will follow the trend of other surprising, high-concept success stories, and swapping out Ethan Hawke for Frank Grillo hardly fills the confidence meter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzFCDqKE4yA
