The Role: Jack Dwyer, the patriarch of an American family caught in the middle of a coup in Southeast Asia where foreigners are being executed by the boatload. Why It's Unexpected: Owen Wilson, action hero? Though he has appeared in the likes of Behind Enemy Lines and the Shanghai series with Jackie Chan, R-rated action is pretty much new territory for the actor, and considering his status as a funny-man, it seems to be major against-type casting. Will It Work?: Given the script's likelihood to depict Wilson as a fish-out-of-water and give Pierce Brosnan's bada** ex-pat most of the heavy lifting action-wise, it's easy to see how this could work. It's still damn odd and it remains to be seen whether adult audiences will buy it, but it's certainly refreshing to see the actor trying something different.
