2. 'As Far Back As I Can Remember...' - Goodfellas (1990)
Whereas The Godfather and its sequel are two of the best films ever made in terms of production values, cast and epic nature, Goodfellas cements itself alongside both. It holds all the aforementioned qualities, yet it moves in a quicker, more interesting way, all the while containing more style and whizzing panache than any film in any genre. The first hour is one of the greatest pieces of American cinema in terms of editing, and the rest simply perfectly pitched. With not a bad scene throughout its entire running time, this truly is the most enjoyable gangster movie ever gifted to an audience. Iconic Moment: The opening scene - after Joe Pesci's Tommy brutally stabs Billy Batts in the back of Henry's car, and De Niro's Jimmy fires a gun at his crotch our main man Henry Hill (played by Ray Liotta) slams the boot shut and the camera crash zooms on his face and freezes. "As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a Gangster...", and so begins one of the greatest, most incredibly violent, exciting, witty and shocking cinematic journeys ever committed to celluloid.
