The Godfather has the point of being the greatest original gangster film, and Goodfellas having the greatest entertainment value, yet The Godfather Part II is simply the best due to its storytelling prowess - arguably the most integral attribute to any type of film. The greatest sequel ever made and possibly up there with the best all-round movies of our time, the film covers newly appointed Don Michael Corleone as he attempts to control the family business after the death of his father Vito. All the while, the film is mirrored by his father's legacy from his immigrant arrival to rise to power, played by Robert De Niro in one of his best roles. This is truly the greatest Gangster film ever crafted. Iconic Moment: The way the two story lines cross over and echo each other is paramount to the films longevity as one of the true greats. The film's conclusion is also beyond the realms of iconic Vito is surrounded by a family who truly love and respect him, whereas Michael is alone and isolated; one man rises as another falls. The whole concept of Michael being alone stems from his inability to forgive or help the ones that are closest to him, a skill his Father excelled at many years prior. "I knew it was you Fredo!" is the heart-breaking moment where Michael gives his loving but stupid older brother the kiss of death. Thinking he is forgiven for an earlier betrayal, Fredo later goes fishing with a bodyguard behind Michael's house. Recalling a tip he used as a child, Fredo begins to say a Hail Mary to help him catch a fish. Unfortunately, even the religious words couldn't save poor Fredo from the wrath of his vengeful brother as the bodyguard shoots him dead as he prays. Don't agree with the order?
