20 Most Iconic Gangster Movie Moments

17. Joey? - A History Of Violence (2007)

This horrifically violent flick about a small town man trying to hide from a previous gangster life of violence and madness, is a real revival point in the career of Cronenberg. Based on a graphic novel, this film displays extreme violence, odd sexual encounters and incredible acting from Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen. A truly modern classic to behold and praise. Iconic Moment: Locking up for the night in his small town cafe, every-man Tom Stall/Joey (Mortensen) apprehends two horrendous characters by smashing one in the face with a glass coffee container and shooting the other one through a glass door. This act of violent vigilantism brings the rats out of the woodwork and Tom's family is introduced to the menacing Carl Fogarty (Ed Harris) who hounds Tom into admitting he was once indeed a very dangerous man with a history of violence.
