20 Most Iconic Gangster Movie Moments

16. Top Of The World - White Heat (1949)

The very pinnacle of James Cagney's body of Gangster films, White Heat follows Cody Jarrett; a man with a flair for leadership but a weakness for his own Mother. After breaking out of prison via an audacious escape, Jarrett hooks up with his old gang for a huge Chemical Plant heist. Needless to say, it doesn't quite go to plan... Iconic Moment: After royally fudging up the Chemical Plant Heist, Jarrett is the only one left willing to fight it out with those pesky Coppers in a seemingly 'no-way out' situation. Pinned by a sniper, he proclaims the immortal line, "Made it Ma, TOP OF THE WORLD!" right before an explosion kills him. In classic 1930s/40s film fashion, the police officer quips to the audience the final line; "Cody Jarret; finally got to the top of the world and it blew up in his face."
