20 Idiotic Decisions Made By Characters In The Harry Potter Films

6. Why Didn€™t Dumbledore Know Voldemort Was Making Horcruxes?

Harry dips his head into the Pensieve, watching Slughorn€™s memory of a young Tom Riddle. It€™s obvious to all that something is wrong, as the sound fades out as Riddle asks his question and the memory ends with Slughorn shouting angrily. Dumbledore tells Harry that the memory is a lie, then tasks him to get the true memory from Slughorn or all is lost. Harry does so, and they find out that Voldemort has been making Horcruxes, plural. At age 150 (or so), Dumbledore is one of the most learned and powerful wizards ever. He has been a teacher at Hogwarts for over 50 years, and Headmaster for a good portion of that. He has two of Voldemort€™s destroyed Horcruxes in his possession; the diary and the ring. The ring was responsible for the curse that was eating away his left hand. Even though he professes that he didn€™t know what Voldemort was planning until after seeing the memory, it seems unlikely that he would never have heard of a Horcrux at all, nor been unable to recognise the effects of one.
