1. Why Didnt Voldemort Confirm For Himself That Harry Was Dead?
In the clearing in the Forbidden Forest, Voldemort has just used the Killing Curse on Harry Potter. Voldemort has used this curse several times already, yet this particular instance knocks him down as well. The sensation is similar to what hes experienced every time Potter has destroyed one of his Horcruxes. Narcissa Malfoy approaches Potters body, examines it, and declares him dead. Voldemort has personally tried to kill Potter on four separate occasions: as a baby, at his fathers grave when he was reconstituted into his body, at the Ministry of Magic when he briefly possessed him (hoping Dumbledore would do it for him), and during the escape from the Dursleys. He already mistrusts the Malfoys, as Lucius has failed him before. So why didnt he confirm himself that Potter was dead? Even if he was too weak to stand after the Avada Kedavra spell, he has plenty of strength to walk back to Hogwarts to declare victory. He could have checked then. Like Ronald Reagan once said, "Trust, but verify." Of course, his failure to do so makes the moment when Harry suddenly jumps out of Hagrids arms that much more golden. The look on his face reads like, What the However, it really shouldn't have - all he had to do was take a knee for a minute, then drag himself over to Harry's 'corpse' to check. Hell, even if he couldn't do it, get Bellatrix or someone fanatically loyal to do it for you.
