17. Hans Zimmer Turned Down Tenet To Compose The Score - Dune

Hans Zimmer ended up providing the searing, bombastic musical score for Denis Villeneuve's Dune, but was faced with an extremely tough decision during the early stages of production.

Dune was shooting around the same time as Christopher Nolan's Tenet, and given that Zimmer has effectively been Nolan's go-to composer for years now, it was expected this relationship would continue uninterrupted.

But Zimmer, citing his love for Frank Herbert's sci-fi opus, couldn't bring himself to turn down working on Dune, and so opted to reject Nolan for the first time in his career. Nolan instead hired Ludwig Göransson to score Tenet, who did a fantastic job.

Zimmer recently stated that Nolan's response to the rejection was "not great," so it'll be interesting to see whether or not this snub affects their future working relationship.

We know that Nolan has hired Göransson once again to score his new film Oppenheimer, and with Zimmer presumably getting to work on Dune: Part Two fairly soon, it may be a while before the pair can reconnect for a project.
