Director: Werner Herzog Starring: Michael Shannon, Gael García Bernal, Werner Herzog Release Date: TBC 2016 Iconic director, Werner Herzog, has been primarily in documentary mode for the last half-decade or so. That looks set to change in 2016 with Salt and Fire, a film based on a Tom Bissell short story (Aral). Not much is known about the film (nor the short story, which is difficult to find online), which will seemingly be an ecological thriller involving volcanoes. It does, however, see Herzog reunite with one of the great actors of his generation, Michael Shannon (they previously worked together on the bizarre My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done). Add to that the brilliant charm of Gael García Bernal, and you have the set-up for what could be a fantastic film; one which, fittingly for a director like Herzog, is steeped in mystery.
