Director: Shane Black Starring: Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe, Kim Basinger Release Date: June 3rd, 2016 A film by Iron Man 3 director, Shane Black (once the highest paid screenwriter in Hollywood), starring powerhouse stars Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling doesnt exactly sound too indie, but when you read the synopsis (and watch the trailer, which literally just dropped as I'm writing) which states that a private eye (Gosling) is investigating the apparent suicide of a fading porn star in 70s LA, it becomes a little more so, looking likely to be a film in the same vein as Blacks brilliant, underrated Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (a modern classic to my mind). If the thought of a scraggy Ryan Gosling in Inherent Vice mode doesnt make this sound appealing enough, then consider the fact that The Nice Guys will see Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger reunited for the first time since L.A. Confidential. If they can replicate the same chemistry they showed in that masterpiece, then The Nice Guys will be well on its way.
