17. "Ornithologist, Philatelist, Philanthropist" - Foxcatcher

While on the way to give a speech at a gala, Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) is in a helicopter with multimillionaire creep John du Pont (Steve Carell), at which point the two share some cocaine and du Pont gets Mark to rehearse his speech in front of him (a speech prepared by du Pont himself, of course). Mark's not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, though, and struggles with the phrase, "ornithologist, philatelist, philanthropist", leading to the two repeating the phrase over and over as the cocaine begins to course through their veins. In a mostly humourless and dead-serious true crime drama, this is a brief aside of levity that's very much welcome. By the time the scene is finished, the phrase has a hypnotic appeal, even if most people will still have no clue what the hell a philatelist is (it's someone who studies stamps and postal history).
