13. "Nicolas! Cage Them!" - Penguins Of Madagascar
Perhaps the biggest surprise about Penguins of Madagascar wasn't merely that it was actually a good film, but that it was dripping with so many unexpected meta gags. The best of the lot is a recurring joke in which the villainous squid Dave (John Malkovich) orders his minions to do his bidding with plenty of "accidental" punnery relating to the names of famous movie stars. Some of the best examples include, "Nicholas, Cage them!", "Elijah, Wood you take them away please?", "Drew, Barry, more power!", "Helen, Hunt them!", "William, Hurt them!", "Hugh, Jack, man your stations!", "Kevin, Bake on!", "Halle, Berry them!", "Charlize, Theron the death ray!" and "Robin, Wright this down." Whether there are anymore hidden throughout will require a second viewing, but it certainly adds some value to the film for adult audiences who might be sitting through it largely for the benefit of their kids.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
