20 James Bond Easter Eggs You Never Noticed

19. Q Is Named After A Man Who Complained About Ian Fleming's Novels - Dr. No

Q is the name everybody knows him by, but Bond author Ian Fleming referred to Bond's quartermaster in the books as Major Boothroyd. This is also the name he goes by in Dr. No, in which it's Peter Burton playing the character, not Desmond Llewelyn, who would hold the part from From Russia With Love to The World Is Not Enough. Major Boothroyd is, in fact, named after Geoffrey Boothroyd, a firearms expert who wrote to Fleming with complaints about Bond's choice of weaponry. Boothroyd then became a kind of adviser to Fleming, who in turn immortalised Boothroyd as James Bond's own weapons specialist (though the character would be referred to largely as Q for Desmond Llewelyn's reign in the films, Bond does again address him as Major Boothroyd in The Spy Who Loved Me).
