Another in-joke of John Glen's can be found in Octopussy, his second as Bond director. Prior to working as editor and director on Bond movies, Glen had actually acted as a second unit director on some notable films, including The Italian Job and Richard Donner's Superman, the latter of which he chooses to pay tribute to in Octopussy, via a short musical cue. In the film, there's a scene in which Bond softens a window's metal bars with acid, then proceeds to bend the bars by hand. Briefly, John Williams's Superman theme can be heard as an accompaniment for Roger Moore's mighty feat of strength.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
