20 Ludicrous Ways To Die In A Horror Film

9. Evil Laugh (Dominick Brascia, 1986)

Evillaugh1 "Evil" Laugh is a pretty terrible slasher film that you'd think would have a more prominent, prevalent and ominous evil laugh in there somewhere, considering it's name and all....but it doesn't. In fact, the killer only laughs two or three times, and if you aren't paying close attention, you will likely miss each of these instances. To be fair, laughter does come into play in the ending, but it's evilness is certainly questionable. This film would be just another terrible, to-be-missed slasher, if it wasn't for the fact that Wes Craven had based the video store character from Scream off the one dude in it. Like in Scream, he uses his knowledge of horror films to (attempt to) deconstruct what happens in a horror scenario, with hopes of surviving. Otherwise, everything about this film is god awful- particularly the kills. The film is clearly low budget, so you can't really hold it against them too much. But come on...at one point, the killer knocks one of the kids semi-unconscious and puts their head in a microwave with the door open. The person about to be killed even says something along the lines of, "I've never seen a microwave work with the door open" (without actually trying to get his head out of the microwave). When, to his surprise (or should I say demise), it does happen to work...causing blood to spew from every orifice of his skull. The above description actually makes that scene sound way cooler than it actually is. Really... it's pretty lame, with crappy special effects. Though it's still pretty laughable- albeit in a "this is pathetic" type of way.

I'm also an anarcho-punk fan that rides a bike, enjoys going on hikes, and really likes fruit....a sort of hippy-punk hybrid, if you will. I graduated from Brock University with an Honours degree in Political Science and an unofficial minor in Film. I enjoy writing learning, reading and writing about politics, film, and punk related issues. I hit shows in TO pretty often and look forward to checking out new films at TIFF every September.
