20 Mind-Blowing Easter Eggs Hidden In Your Favorite Horror Films
8. Slither Pays Tribute To The Thing And Tremors
Before James Gunn got involved in the Marvel universe, he directed a bizarre picture about killer slugs called Slither. It was essentially a modern day '50s B-movie, and in one of the opening scenes, Gunn decided to give a shout-out to one of his inspirations.
Early on, the camera pans down the street of the town, and for a few moments it focuses on the R.J. MacReady funeral home. This is named after Kurt Russell's character in John Carpenter's 1982 version of The Thing.
Carpenter's film didn't make MacReady's fate clear, but according to Slither, he made it out alive and opened a successful funeral parlor in South Carolina. Considering Slither is a movie in which an alien parasite takes over human bodies and starts secretly controlling them, the fact that Gunn had The Thing on the mind makes a lot of sense.
That's not even the only building in town named after a horror character, as the Earl Bassett Community School is a reference to the character Fred Ward plays Tremors.
