20 Mind-Blowing Easter Eggs Hidden In Your Favorite Horror Films

7. The Thing Hides A Clue In Norwegian Dialogue

The Thing is definitely one of those slow build type of horror movies, and it's not for a little while that the nature of this alien shapeshifter is made clear. That is unless you speak Norwegian, because if you do, it was fully explained in the first few minutes.

In the opening scene, a Norwegian helicopter is trying to shoot down a dog, and so we instantly hate these guys for trying to hunt such an innocent animal. Is it so innocent, though? When our American protagonists try to stop them, one of the men screams something in Norwegian that the leads can't understand, and then he's shot dead.

What he was saying translates to, "Get the hell outta there. That's not a dog, it's some sort of thing! It's imitating a dog, it isn't real! Get away you idiots!"

Essentially, the entire film could have been avoided if only somebody at the base spoke Norwegian.
