While the fourth instalment in the franchise wasn’t quite as raked over by the critics, it’s safe to say that Alien: Resurrection is nowhere near the heady heights of the first two Alien films. In fact, it speaks volumes about the quality of the movie when one of its most memorable scenes is when Ripley makes a seemingly off the cuff, behind the back basketball shot.

Though it wasn’t a one take wonder, Sigourney Weaver did manage to make the basket in a couple of dozen takes despite director Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s insistence that they could just CGI it in later. Not bad considering she’d only been practising basketball for a few weeks prior.

Her hoop prowess impressed co-star Ron Perlman so much that he broke character, but luckily there was enough space in the scene for the editing team to crop out his astonished reaction.
