20 Mind-Blowing Facts About Alien Movies
14. Aliens – Captain Continuity James Cameron Strikes Again
While the debate over whether Ridley Scott’s Alien or James
Cameron’s Aliens is the superior film will most likely rage on amongst
franchise fans until the end of time, one thing is for sure: Cameron
respectfully made sure his sequel stayed faithful to Scott’s original film.
In addition to the Joseph Conrad continuity just mentioned, Cameron included another nod to Alien during the first few moments of Aliens. Look carefully during the scene in which the salvage team are opening the door of the shuttle in which Ripley made her escape in Alien, and you’ll see a harpoon gun wedged there.
That gun is the very same weapon Ripley used to shoot the xenomorph in the closing scenes of Alien, still in place seven years later (in non-movie time) or fifty-seven years later according to the Alien franchise timeline. Kudos for continuity, Cameron.
