20 Mind-Blowing Facts About The Jurassic Park Franchise
4. Jurassic Park III Never Had A Finished Script
Its becoming more and more common for blockbusters to enter production while essential story points are still being thrashed out; something that often necessitates expensive reshoots and can result in a muddled final product. Jurassic Park III faced a similar fate when, just five weeks before cameras were set to roll and with $18 million already spent, Johnston threw out the existing story idea and started over. In fact, the follow-up to The Lost World never had a finished script at all, as Johnston explains:
We never did have a final script. We did not have a final script until after we wrapped the movie. We shot pages that eventually went into the final script but we didn't have a document. The joke on the set was it was going to be the wrap gift, everybody got a script. We had a script for the day we were shooting and maybe the next day and sometimes a week ahead of time, but we never had a story that had a beginning, middle and end.
Which goes some way towards explaining why Jurassic Park III was something of a letdown, although things could easily have gotten so much worse
I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
