14. Dalton And Brosnan Could Have Been Bond Earlier Than They Were
Both Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, while never knocking Sean Connery off his perch, are popular Bonds, with their own devout fans who swear that each actor was perfect for the role. It turns out that Bond's producers agreed, as both actors were approached for the role before they eventually took it. While Dalton eventually took the role in 1987's The Living Daylights, he was apparently first choice to replace Connery for On Her Majesty's Secret Service all the way back in 1968. As he was 24 at the time - and would still now be the youngest Bond ever - he turned it down, believing himself to be too young. However, Dalton might never have been Bond at all. The first choice for the role in The Living Daylights was Pierce Brosnan, who was forced to decline the role due to his contractual commitment to US spy series Remington Steele. When Dalton decided not to come back for a third outing, though, Brosnan was free to take on the role for 1995's GoldenEye.
