20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Terminator Franchise

17. Producers Forced Cameron To Consider A Robot Dog As Reese's Companion

Not everything in Cameron's original Terminator script made it to the screen. There were ideas for characters, such as the one that would eventually show up in Terminator 2 as the T-1000, that were deemed simply too expensive to realise on such a low budget. One other proposed character, however, was kept out of the film for the simple fact that Cameron never liked the idea in the first place. That would be the cyborg dog that production company Orion wanted to act as a companion to Kyle Reese. It's said there was a good deal of free reign given to Cameron on The Terminator, owing largely to the small sum Orion had invested, but the studio did suggest two things: a romance between Reese and Sarah Connor, and a robot pooch. Cameron compromised - he kept the romance and killed the dog.
